My Dream Destinations: Dahican Beach and Malapascua Island

This is my second post on My Dream Destinations, a series of posts about great places in the Philippines I have never been to. This is my "bucket list" of destinations that I wish I could visit someday.

1. Dahican Beach in Mati, Davao Oriental

Dahican Beach is located in Barangay Dahican, Mati, Davao Oriental. It is a 7-kilometer stretch of white sand facing the great Pacific Ocean (wow!). Not a few tourists declared this beach as more beautiful than Boracay. Because of its location, the waves here are ideal for skimboarding. Dahican is also the home of the Amihan Boys, a group of young, local skimboarders being trained by Mr. George "Jun"Plaza to keep them way from drugs and other vices. Because of his noble deeds, Mr. Plaza was featured in the Heroes section of Readers Digest Asia's latest issue.

Dahican Beach--simply stunning!

With Davao's proximity to Bukidnon, my home province, the possibility of me visiting Dahican may not be too far fetched. Hopefully, this one would soon be off my bucket list!

2. Malapascua Island in Cebu

About 8 kilometers from the northeastern tip of Cebu lies Malapascua, a tiny island which is only 2.5 kilometers long and 1 kilometer wide. Malapascua is part of the Municipality of Daanbantayan, Cebu. It started to gain popularity only in the early 90s mainly due to its dive spots and white sand beaches. Residents of the island derived their income mainly from tourism, fishing and farming.
