Beach Hopping in Mati, Davao Oriental: JamBay Beach Resort

On our last day in Mati, Davao Oriental, the pedicab driver we hired took us to the Masao beach strip for some sightseeing on the beaches there. The Masao beach strip is located further southwest of Dahican Beach and is about 45 minutes pedicab ride from Mati town proper.

Our first stop was at JamBay Beach Resort. The resort is situated along Pujada Bay, which is said to be one of Southeast Asia's richest bays in terms of biodiversity. From here, one can have great views of the Waniban Island and the Mt. Hamiguitan range.

The small island is Waniban which can be reached by pump boat from JamBay Beach Resort

JamBay Beach Resort first opened in December 2006. It was initially intended to be a private weekend getaway for the family who owned it. However, due to its scenic location and calm and crystal clear waters, it was eventually developed into a beach resort. Compared to Dahican Beach, the waves here are much calmer and the waters are shallow making it a safe place to swim for children.

At present, JamBay Beach Resort has only a few cottages for accommodation. Room rates range from Php 1,000-1,800/night and all rooms are airconditioned with private toilet and shower. There are open cottages with tables and chairs by the seaside with price ranging from Php 300-1,000/day. You can bring your own food since there is no corkage fee.

    1. yes, they are. but aside from the white sand beaches there, i've been to a beach where the sand is black in toril, davao city and a pebble beach on an island in davao oriental (jericho island i think, if my blurry mind remembers correctly) .where they say the sea water isn't as salty as it usually is.

  5. it seems a lot of development and structures have already been constructed in dahican and its neighboring beaches. i hope the peeps from mati won't overdo it. it was so beautiful and idyllic when my friends and i would frequently frolick that place in the '90s
