Cebu Food Stop: Titay's Liloan Rosquillos

On our way to Danao City from Cebu North Terminal, the Ceres Bus made a stop at this bakeshop situated along the highway of Liloan. It is named Titay's and I instantly recalled that when we went to Bantayan Island four years ago, this is also where the bus made its stop on our way to Hagnaya. I realized that Titay's is the official stop-over of all buses heading to the northern parts of Cebu Province and back to the Cebu North Terminal. Here, the driver and conductor will eat their meals while the passengers have some quick bites and buy "pasalubong" goodies.

Since it was scorching hot inside the bus, my wife and I went inside the fully airconditioned Titay's.  Right beside the door is this harpist playing cool and soothing music to the customers.

The harpist of Liloan

Titay's has been operating since 1907 and is considered as a pioneer and market leader in home-baked products industry. It is home of the famous "Rosquillos", a round-shaped cookie with a hole in the middle. I would later find out that the simple yet tasty Rosquillos has a rich history. It was actually named as such by then Cebu Governor Sergio Osmeña from the Spanish word rosca which means ringlet . Osmeña would later on become the President of the Philippine Commonwealth (read the full story from The Lost Boy blog HERE).

Inside Titay's Liloan Rosquillos

On one of its wall is a large collage of old photographs depicting Titay's history:

My wife bought empanada, puto and of course, Rosquillos which we munched during the course of our long journey to Camotes Islands.
