Travel Glimpses: Midsayap, North Cotabato

A work related travel took me and my officemates to the town of Midsayap, Cotabato last year. We were supposed to only checked some documents at the Municipal Trial Court but since we finished it early, we decided to proceed to the town proper to get a closer look of the place.

I really don't know much about this place since I only passed here once many, many years ago when I went to Cotabato City. I observed that Midsayap is a progressive municipality with plenty of commercial establishments such as banks, restaurants, general merchandising stores and lodging facilities.

We went to the Town Hall and immediately took notice of an edifice with roofing shaped like a giant hat built on the park right across. I would later learn that the term Midsayap was derived from two native terms, Mid which means "center" and Sayap which means "hat".  According to the Official Website of Cotabato Province, there is a hill centrally located at the Municipality which slopes through the plains in a shape of a hat.

Midsayap is a 1st class municipality bounded on the North by the Municipality of Libungan; on the South by the Rio Grande de Mindanao; on the East by the municipalities of Aleosan and Pikit; and on the West by the Municipality of Kabuntalan. It is approximately 47 kilometers away from Cotabato City, 174 kilometers away from Davao City and about 64 kilometers away from Kidapawan City, the seat of the Provincial Government of Cotabato (info from wikipedia.org).
After a quick tour around the town, we then headed back to the City of Kidapawan.

    2. Hat po talaga yun. known as "Sayap" hat used during farming/harvest season to protect from direct sunlight/heat. One of the reason kung bakit po Midsayap ang name ng Lugar. hehehe. been there. great place.
