My Top 5 Beaches in the Philippines

The onset of summer is now upon us and just about everybody is on bright, sunny mode. This is the time to frolic on the beach and enjoy some sun, sand and surf! In keeping up with the summer season, I am presenting my own list of the best beaches I've ever been to in the Philippines. So pack up your bag, wear your best beach get-up and head on to Suroy Pilipinas' Top 5 best beach destinations for your summer getaway.

1. Dahican Beach , Mati, Davao Oriental

Dahican boasts of a seven-kilometer white sand beach facing the Pacific Ocean and  is one of Mindanao's best kept secret. It has only two private resorts occupying opposite sides of the crescent-shaped beach and right in between is the Amihan sa Dahican Skim and Surf team headquarters where backpackers can pitch their tent or hammock and pay only a minimal amount for an overnight stay. What I love most about this beach is its laid back ambiance, where one can commune with nature, hear the crashing of the waves and enjoy the feel-good atmosphere of the skimboarding community. (Read more about my Dahican Beach Experience HERE).

2. The beaches of San Francisco, Camotes Island, Cebu

Santiago Bay, with its wide white sands exposed during low tide, has one of the most awesome beach view I've ever seen. It is a public beach with only a few private resorts operating within.  It's view as seen from the cliff of Santiago Bay Garden and Resort will simply take one's breath away.

Bakhaw Beach in Barangay Esperanza is another unspoiled white sand beach in the island of Camotes. With no noisy crowd and no cottages in sight, you can have the fine sands and clear blue waters all to yourself. (Read more about my Camotes Experience HERE)

3. The beaches of Bantayan Island, Cebu

My wife and I visited this island paradise in summer of 2007 and we were so amazed with the fact that white sand beaches are within walking distance from the Port of Santa Fe. The town is blessed with a number of great resorts, some of which are well-developed but are still affordable for backpackers' budget. Among the resorts we visited here are Saint Bernard Beach Resort, Ogtong Cave, Kota Beach and the Sante Fe Beach Club. (Click HERE to read more about Bantayan Island)

4. Baybay Beach in Belison, Antique

A family reunion on my mother-in-law's side took me to Antique and to this beach simply called Baybay. This beach shattered my belief that all beautiful beaches are of the white sand kind. Located in the quaint barangay of Maradiona, Baybay has  a long, lovely stretch of clean, black and sandy coastline. It is largely undeveloped and has no entrance fee so you can enjoy the beach all for free! (Click HERE to read more about Antique's Baybay Beach)

5. Boracay, Malay, Aklan

Yes, it is crowded, commercialized and overdeveloped. But there is no doubt that Boracay is the Philippine's most famous beach destination and was recently named as Asia's best beach and world's second best (according to www.tripadvisor.com's Traveler's Choice 2011). Boracay is a party beach that is always synonymous to the word FUN. What made this beach memorable for me is that this is where my wife and I spent our honeymoon when we got married more than 5 years ago. (Read more about Boracay HERE)

So there you have it, my top five choices for the best beaches in the Philippines. Bear in mind, though, that this list is limited only on the places I have personally visited so far. Our country has 7,107 islands so the possibility of discovering your own paradise is always endless.  Get to know the Philippines more than the usual by visiting various Pinoy Travel Bloggers' blogs.
