How To Get In or Out of NAIA Terminal 3 For Only 20 Pesos

(Kindly scroll down to the bottom of this article for latest update)

As home of the country's budget airlines like Cebu Pacific and Air Philippines, Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 is where most budget travelers pass through when going to Manila or taking off to provincial and some international destinations. When going to or getting out of NAIA Terminal 3, the most common option is to take a taxi. Coupon and yellow cabs are easily found parked outside the terminal exit doors. While this mode of transportation is generally safe as these are airport-registered cabs, it is definitely expensive and could easily make a huge dent on a frugal traveler's budget.

However, there is a more inexpensive, comfortable and safe way to get in or out of NAIA Terminal 3: the NAIA Shuttle Bus. I've experienced riding this shuttle bus during my recent trips in Manila and it was definitely a money saver as each ride only costs 20 pesos per person.

So if you want to save on your next travel to Manila, here's my DIY guide in getting out (or in) of NAIA Terminal 3, the cheapest way possible:

1. Upon landing in NAIA Terminal 3, the first thing to do is, obviously, to go out through the exit door (hehehe!):

2. Ignore the coupon and yellow taxi cabs parked outside. Walk across the road and look for the two bus stations which are, actually, only a few steps away. In the photo below, you will see that the bus station is right across the parked yellow cabs.

3. Bus Station Route 1 is for buses going to NAIA 1, NAIA 2 and NAIA 4. I guess this station is for passengers with connecting flights in one of the three other terminals. Walk straight to the next station, which is Bus Station Route 2.

4. Bus leaves every 15 minutes. Once you're inside the bus, wait for the conductor to collect the fee. The bus has a flat rate of only 20 pesos.

5. There are three major unloading areas where you can get off the shuttle bus: (1) Redemptorist Church in Baclaran; (2) Heritage Hotel at the corner of EDSA and Roxas Boulevard; and  (3) the Bus Station inside Genesis Bus Terminal in Pasay Taft Rotonda. The bus  terminal entrance is fronting Metropoint Mall and is right at the back of Sogo Hotel, McDonalds and Chowking outlets.

6. The bus terminal in Pasay Rotunda is only walking distance to LRT and MRT stations so going to your next destination is not much of a hassle. If you want to hit the mall, jeepneys passing along EDSA (outside the terminal) go directly to SM Mall of Asia. Or if you want to relax after a long travel, you may check in at the nearby so clean, so good...Sogo Hotel (hahaha!).

7. In getting back to NAIA Terminal 3, just go directly to the Pasay Rotunda Bus Terminal as the shuttle buses leave for the airport in regular intervals.

UPDATE (February 20, 2013)

An anonymous reader recently commented that the shuttle buses going to Pasay Rotunda is not available anymore. Instead, the buses are now only servicing the NAIA 1-2-3-4 Loop.

I confirmed this development on my recent visit to Manila. Since there are no more shuttle buses operating in the NAIA 3-Pasay route anymore, we have to take the metered yellow taxi in going to SM Mall of Asia. The ride definitely was definitely more expensive (we paid about 10x the bus fare) but still it is more cheaper than hiring the coupon taxi with fixed rate.

If you happen to know any cheaper way to get in or out of NAIA Terminal 3, kindly logged it as comment to this post.

UPDATE (September 9, 2014)

Per information gathered, operation of the shuttle buses going to Pasay Rotunda already resumed.

    2. june 13, 2013 I took the 20 peso shuttle bus from terminal 3. It went to the pasay rotunda via Baclarren as it did before. Great drop off location next to McDonalds and Chowking especially when raining hard and the street floods. If going to Dau, Dagupan etc. You can just hop on the bus from there.

  16. Most limos already have twwo exit doors and tempered safety glass that will break easily

with a break out tool ! The problem will be with the intoxicated passengers opening them up

and falling out. Most modern cars lock the doors as soon as the car is in gear, cchild door

locks are also a problem! I propose a law to put smoke detectors and glass break out tools

in every coMmercial passenger vehicle. Smoke detectors would provide an early warning system

and would be inexpensive. Any upstanding operator would already have a fire extinguisher and

first aid kit in their vehicles.

  25. Don't get me started on NAIA! There was a reason it was voted worst airport in the world out of 50 airports. It really is!! Having said that I don't expect everything to work like clockwork in a poor country. I'm a frequent visitor to The Phils which I love. Something urgently needs to be done around transport management & moving people quickly between T1 to T3 etc & vice versa. Every other airport I have been to has a free shuttle between international & domestics terminals. I would not mind even paying 100 pesos if the bus arrived every 15 mins as its meant to. Last time in April I waited 50 mins & the bus was so packed suitcases thrown everywhere inside I almost did not get on. As a suggestion why not put a trailer (wire cage style) behind the bus for the luggage? Another suggestion would be why not run the shuttle buses around the perimeter of the runways like they do in many other airports for example Heathrow. The roads around NAIA are constantly choked up with traffic it takes forever even to go 2 kms, Tourism is vital to the Phils economy & NAIA is the country's major airport where most tourists arrive. NAIA management you seriously need to lift your game otherwise tourists will stop coming if it's too difficult to get anywhere.

  42. if you want to ride a cheaper way to the metro (vs yellow CABS), ride the taxi in the 3rd floor. After you get your bags in the carousel, go to the exit. Turn left and look for the escalator in the left wing (facing the EXIT walls). Go up until you reach the 3rd floor. I assume you are already at the departure area. Walk straight going the the departure's ENTRANCE walls. You are still standing at the left wing of the airport facing the outside the airport. Now turn right and walk upto the dead end.

Actually, you will also see people do this method. From arrival->go up thru the escalator->in the 3rd floor walk to the right end->exit and queue.

There is a more cheaper method..."Riding the Jeepney outside NAIA3". Reply if you want to know.

    1. I have taken that route many times. It's OK but if you have a huge load of luggage (say you've just landed from a long-haul flight), it's hard. The LRT and MRT do not have working escalators. Plus, the lines can get very long during rush hour.

Just wanted to check for any more updates. We'd greatly appreciate your response. Thank you.
