Montaño Spanish Style Sardines: A Taste of Dipolog

Montaño Spanish Style Sardines is Dipolog City's most popular food delicacy. I remember the last time I was in Dipolog during our company's sportsfest how some of my officemates hoarded this gourmet sardines to take home as pasalubong. Fortunately, I don't have to go too far to get an authentic taste of Dipolog once again. On a recent grocery trip, I found out that Montaño Spanish Style Sardines is already available in Gaisano Malaybalay. Despite being priced at 100 pesos per jar (it is definitely way cheaper if bought in Dipolog), I did not think twice in adding one to my grocery cart.

Bottled in a clear glass jar, the sardines are cooked in olive oil with some pickled cucumber, carrots and iodized salt thrown in to the mix. It is also spiced for mild hotness. The sardines' fresh taste can be savored once eaten straight from the jar.

Montaño Spanish Style Sardines has now become my favorite breakfast fare. I love it paired with scrambled eggs, coffee and lots of rice. It's versatility, though, make it also an excellent side dish any time of the day.

  1. hinanap ko talaga yang brand na montaño sandines when i went to dipolog... nag uwi ako, isang bote lang kc hand carry lang ako... at nagustuhan nila dito sa bahay... ang masama, di ko natikman... wahahaha!

  2. There are stocks of the sardines in some supermarkets in Cebu if one takes the time to go around. They are definitely superb than most imported Spanish style sardines I tasted. Good luck with the search.
