How to Commute from Cagayan de Oro to Camiguin

1. The fastest (but more expensive) way to reach Camiguin from Cagayan de Oro City is through the Ocean Jet fast craft. It leaves Macabalan Pier in CDO daily at 8:30 AM. Estimated time of arrival in Benoni Port, Camiguin is 10:00 AM. Fare is Php550.00. For more details, visit the Ocean Jet's Official Website.

2. To get to Macabalan Pier, you may ride a taxi or take any jeepney with the "Pier" signboard from the city proper. Jeepney fare is 8 pesos.

3. The cheaper (and longer way) to reach Camiguin from Cagayan de Oro is via Balingoan Port in Balingoan, Misamis Oriental. Check THIS SITE for ferry schedule from Balingoan to Benoni, Camiguin.

4. From the Agora Bus Terminal in Cagayan de Oro, take any bus bound for Butuan and buy ticket for Balingoan. Distance from CDO to Balingoan is 86 kilometers and fare for the airconditioned Bachelor Express bus is 143 pesos. With the on-going road repairs in the Misamis Oriental highway, expect the travel to last more than two hours.

5. Disembark at the Balingoan Bus Terminal. From the terminal, the port is about 10-minute walk. You may also ride a "sikad" (trike) to the port for 8 pesos.

6. Purchase your ferry ticket in one of the ticket booths outside the port. Ferry fare from Balingoan Port to Benoni Port, Camiguin is 170 pesos.

7. If you fail to catch the 5 PM last trip ferry bound for Camiguin, you may stay overnight in one of the few lodging houses near Balingoan Port. I once stayed in Lola Lumen Pension House. Read my review of the place HERE.

8. Ferry trip to Camiguin from Balingoan is a little over one hour.

9. Outside Benoni Port in Camiguin, you can find passenger vans and jeepneys bound for Mambajao where there are available accommodations for your island stay. Van fare from Benoni to Mambajao is 30 pesos.

10. If you want to explore the island right away, there are plenty of multicab drivers in Benoni Port offering packaged day tours for P1,500-P1,700. There are also motorbikes available for rent at 500 pesos per day. There is a tourism desk inside the port compound where you may ask for directions and assistance.
