Bukidnon: Year-End Hike to the Two Trees

The moon was still up when we started our hike and the air was crisp and cold as we started our ascent. I was with my high school classmates Pablo, Ronny and Eric in this early morning on the last day of the year 2012 for a hike up to the Two Tress, the popular peak of the Bukidnon Provincial Tree Park in Malaybalay City. My three classmates now live and work in Cebu, Cagayan de Oro and Manila respectively and while they were all born and grew up in Malaybalay, they've never been inside this tree park which is just within our home town. The Christmas break gave them the opportunity to visit this spot and I, the local guy, acted as their guide.

We met up and started our hike outside the Landbank Bukidnon Lending Center office. We descended through the road in-between the DPWH and Provincial Jail, passed by the Capitol Village (Gawad Kalinga) and crossed over the Kalawaig Creek spillway. The uphill started shortly and a few meters after passing through the tree park entrance, we already had a good view of the Mount Kitanglad range from afar.

Plenty of trees inside the park were uprooted by the recent Typhoon Pablo. Some of the these trees even blocked the trail going up to the peak.

Unfortunately, one of the Two Trees also fell down due to the strong winds of the typhoon. I wrote about this in my Bukidnon Photo Journal blog which you can read HERE.

Nevertheless, the scenery is still wonderful from up above. This is already the sixth time I climbed the Two Trees and the view never fails to awe me every time. As for my three classmates, they were simply stunned by the beautiful sights their eyes laid upon for the very first time.

I am happy to have ended my year right. A short hike to the Bukidnon Provincial Tree Park capped another year of traveling, running and adventures. Wishing for more of these in the year ahead. :)
