First Time Visit to the DPWH Overview Helipad in Quezon, Bukidnon

The DPWH Overview Helipad is located in an elevated point of Palacapao, Quezon, Bukidnon. It is right across the Overview Nature and Culture Park, a popular stop-over along the Bukidnon to Davao Highway. This spot offers a breathtaking panoramic view of Bukidnon's mountains, hills and valleys. Both the helipad and the park are maintained by the Department of Public Works and Highways.

After scaling the peak of Mount Musuan, we had our lunch in the municipal-owned Food Court of Maramag. Then we went straight to the Municipality of Quezon with the sole intention of seeing the beautiful view in Overview Nature and Culture Park.

We arrived in Overview after an hour drive and parked on the road side across its entrance. But before going inside the park, we decided to check out first the DPWH Helipad. While I've been to Overview twice already, I've never been to the helipad yet.

Just like the Overview Park, there are also sculptures of indigenous people in the helipad. These works are done by Davao-based artist Kublai Millan and pay tribute to the people of the "Seven Hill Tribes", considered as the original inhabitants of Bukidnon.

Guarding the entrance are sculptures of two lumads carrying a long pole inscribed with the words "Maayad Ha Pag-uma", meaning "Welcome".  The concrete road going to the top is a bit steep and may be a little tiring for those who are not used to hiking.

Along the way we saw this beautiful rest house on a hill. We thought this is probably also owned by the DPWH.

Upon reaching the flat ground, we walked towards the direction of the giant cowboy hat.

There it is:

Before going to the cowboy hat, we paused to have our photo taken at the helipad.

A concrete pathway adorned with Mangima Stones leads toward the cowboy hat.  It is flanked by concrete railings made to look like wood on one side.

The concrete hat is actually an overhead cover of the helipad's view deck. It provides shelter from the sun for those who want to enjoy the breeze and the wonderful view of Bukidnon's verdant rolling hills and mountains.

There are more ethnic-inspired statues a few steps down below. These include a man riding a horse while waving his hat as if greeting travelers passing along the highway and a child riding a carabao while playing an indigenous musical instrument.

I walked further down below, towards the edge fenced by a concrete railing. And there I sat on the corner post and savor the breathtaking view that went as far as my eyes could see.
