Bohol Day 1: Not-So-Touristy Things to Do in Chocolate Hills

The geological wonder called Chocolate Hills is Bohol's most popular tourist attraction. Located in the central part of the province, it is consists of more than a thousand hills spread over the municipalities of Carmen, Sagbayan and Batuan. The hills are covered with green grass that turns brown during dry season, hence the name Chocolate Hills.

Lots of people frequent the Chocolate Hills Complex in Carmen daily. Most of these tourists usually converge on the view deck built in one of the two hills developed for tourism. This deck offers a 360 degree panoramic view of the surrounding area. It is also in this spot where tourists take turn in having their photos taken with the beautiful hills as their backdrop.

The requisite jump shot. Yeah, we're all guilty of this! Hahaha!

While it is perfectly alright to have your photos taken in the viewing area, you will surely end up with photographs that look like anybody else's. And also, you will be wasting your precious time waiting for your turn to have your photo taken in this spot.

So why not try some things out of the ordinary and go home with photos that are more unique and fun? Here are two not-so-touristy things I suggest:

1. Just before reaching the top of the 214 steps leading to the viewing area, step outside the steel railing to your right. There is a narrow flat surface just before the slope which provides enough space for your own "private" photo ops.

When we were there, no other tourists occupied this area so we have the unobstructed view of the hills all to ourselves. Since it is already the edge of the hill, just be extra careful and don't stray too far from the concrete steps and steel railing. And, please, no jump shot here!

Chocolate Hills...without the crowd.

2. The road leading to the base of the Chocolate Hills Complex will also look boring in photos if you will just stand there and strike an ordinary pose.

Instead of the usual jump shot, ditch off whatever footwear you are wearing and have your photo taken while running barefoot in this road. Even if you are not the athletic-type, just try to run for a few meters. With the hills in the background, you will surely end up with some pretty Rave Run snapshots.

Go run!

I am sure there are still more ways for you to have not-so-common photos in a touristy place like the Chocolate Hills. All you need is just a little imagination and lots of goofiness. Have fun!

  1. I love to go there someday.. Do you know a cheap way to travel to there?

If you own a timeshare and are looking to get out of it, look in to the services of a timeshare exit company such as Wesley Financial Group or Primo Management Group. The Wesley Financial Group reviews and Primo Management Group reviews around the Internet are very positive.
