Davao City: We Slept in Erap Room for 3 Hours

Yes, you read it right. We did sleep in Erap Room for three hours during our recent travel to Davao City. But it is not actually the room of former Philippine President Joseph "Erap" Estrada. Rather, it is the name of the room we were given when we checked in at Iron Inn, a budget inn that charges on a per hour basis. Iron Inn is situated near Davao Overland Transport Terminal, more popularly known as Ecoland Terminal.

Malou and I arrived in Davao City at almost 3 AM and figured out it is too early to go to our planned destination. We were not able to sleep well during the 5-hour plus bus ride from Bukidnon so a few hours of eyeshut is much needed. I then asked the terminal porter near the entrance where is the nearest place where we could get some rest. He pointed to the direction of Iron Inn.

Iron Inn location is at Gate 5, Ecoland Terminal, Davao City. It is only a minute walk from where we disembarked from the bus awhile ago. An old lady opened the inn's gate and obviously our arrival disturbed her sleep. After paying 250 pesos good for 3 hours, no keys were handed and she just said "Erap". I was a bit puzzled and asked her what's our room number. He again mentioned "Erap" and pointed to the row of rooms adjacent to the reception area. We found out that the rooms are named after politicians. Noynoy, Villar, Gloria and Mar were among those that I could recall.

Erap Room is small but is actually more spacious than the one we previously stayed in D' Morvie Suites. The orange paint on the concrete walls already have some peeled portions indicating that the building is a bit run-down. The room is airconditioned and is equipped with a double bed, toilet and bath and a small TV.

After putting our backpacks on the floor, we fell asleep in a matter of minutes. The inn may be cheap but we did get the number of hours of sound sleep that we paid for.

So, would I recommend Iron Inn as a budget place to stay in Davao City? Yes, but only if you want to stay for 3 hours or less. Beyond 3 hours, D' Morvie Suites is still the best decent place to go since your P250.00 could already give you 12 hours worth of stay.
