Where to Stay in Roxas City: San Antonio Resort

The long land travel from Concepcion, Iloilo to Roxas City exhausted our bodies that we immediately lay down on the bed shortly after checking in at San Antonio Resort. The resort sits on a sprawling area on the quiet side of Roxas and a quick survey of its surrounding revealed that momentous events such as weddings, birthdays and the likes are often held here. In fact, while walking towards our room, we passed by a wedding reception held at the resort's pool side. While most of the room rates here are beyond my backpacker's budget, it was good that they have  a budget room which we reserved earlier through my wife's former officemate who knew someone working in the resort.

Our room is located at the far right corner, away from the noise of the wedding reception. The airconditioned room was small, just enough space for a double bed, a wooden drawer with a TV sitting on its top and a bathroom . With a rate of P1,300/night, it comes with free breakfast for two. Not bad, considering that San Antonio Resort belongs to the middle-to-high-end range of accommodations in Roxas City.

The best thing about this resort is its proximity to most of Roxas City's tourist attractions. Right across the road is Baybay Beach, a long and wide gray sand beach which is a favorite picnic place of local folks. About 600 meters from the resort gate is People's Park where the Seafood Court is located. At Seafood Court, you can choose among the freshest fisherman's catch and have it cooked to your preference. And with Roxas dubbed as the Seafood Capital of the Philippines, you can be assured that the various seafood are not only fresh but also very affordable. If you want to discover more of the city, a tricycle ride of less than 10 minutes will take you to Roxas City Plaza where the following landmarks are just walking distance to each other: Roxas City Hall, Capiz Provincial Capitol, Immaculate Concepcion Metropolitan Cathedral, Old Spanish Bridge, Bandstand, Roxas City Museum, Pres. Manuel Roxas Ancestral House and the Roxas City Fountain.

After a restful sleep, we availed their free breakfast served at Portlago Restaurant, situated near the pool. We have our fill of pork longanisa, dried fish, sunny side up eggs and garlic rice while enjoying the view of the lovely infinity pool and lagoon.

Overall, my wife and I had a pleasant stay at San Antonio Resort. The budget room we availed offered good value for our money as we were able to sleep comfortably and it also came with free breakfast. The resort's amenities plus its proximity to some of the city's tourist spots make it an ideal choice for travelers looking for a place to stay in Roxas City.

  1. This place is absolutely gorgeous, beautiful and stunning. Even though a few halls are equally appealing and fascinating in their decor, food and aesthetics, I'm tempted to still give this NY events place a slight edge.
