Review: Marco Polo Plaza Cebu (A Photo Essay)

Last weekend, I took my family to Cebu City for a summer getaway. It was my own way of introducing my kids, Maya and Marley, to the wonderful world of traveling. It was a weekend of many firsts for our kids--first time to join me and my wife Malou in a long travel, first time to ride an airplane and first time to set foot on the Queen City of the South. On our first day in Cebu, we stayed at the luxury business hotel Marco Polo Plaza, Cebu.

While I and Malou are used to budget-friendly accommodations on most of our travels, we felt the need to provide more comfort to our little kids. Fortunately, I was able to booked the Super Weekender on Marco Polo's website, thus making our stay in Cebu City's only 5-star hotel fit within our budget.

Here's a photo essay of our stay at Marco Polo Plaza Cebu last April 18-19, 2015:

Marco Polo Plaza Cebu is located at Veterans Drive, Nivel Hills, Apas, Cebu City. Its location provides a panoramic view of downtown Cebu. Upon arrival at the hotel, we were welcomed by its spacious grand lobby and reception area.

Checking in was a hassle-free. After confirming my reservation, I handed out my credit card to charge our stay and then we were given the keycard to our room.

Our Deluxe Mountainview accommodation has a rate of Php3,500.00 and is located at the 17th floor. The spacious room has two double beds, WIFI access, cable TV, NDD/IDD phone, coffee/tea maker and a personal bar.

Complimentary bottled water, tea and coffee are placed on top of the personal refrigerator:

The bathroom is spacious and clean. Toiletries provided include towels, bath soap, shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and moisturizing lotion.

What I love most in this room are the large windows which provided a refreshing view of Cebu mountains.

Breakfast is not included in our accommodation. However, it comes with a 500-peso credit to Food and Beverage. We used this to purchase egg omelet, fresh fruits and cup noodles. These, along with a loaf of bread made up for our filling breakfast.

One of the main reasons why I chose Marco Polo Plaza for our stay in Cebu is their swimming pool. My kids love swimming so I was very happy seeing them enjoy the pool to their heart's content. The hotel has a 25-meter mango-shaped pool  for adults and kids pool for the little ones. The hotel's fitness gym and kids playroom are also free to use for guest. However, due to lack of time, we were not able to use these facilities.

Overall, we had a luxurious, comfortable and memorable stay at Marco Polo. Their Super Weekender rate offers good value considering that this is one of Cebu City's high end hotels. Our kids definitely enjoyed the swimming pool and even went swimming twice during our stay. The spacious room and comfortable beds also gave us a pleasant sleep. The hotel's location offers an overlooking view of Cebu City and when going downtown, taxi fare costs only around 100-200 pesos. Thus, Marco Polo Plaza is highly recommended for a family getaway within Cebu City.
