Review: Benguet Pine Tourist Inn in Baguio City

Last month, my wife and I joined Pinoy Fitness Sub1 10K Challenge in Baguio City. The race started and finished at Burnham Park. A few weeks before the event, I searched Agoda Philippines and Hotels.com discount code for cheap hotels near Burnham Park. It is always my practice that whenever we join runs in other places, I made sure we stay near the start and finish area of the race for convenience.

At first, my search yielded unfavorable results as nearby hotels have rates beyond my budget while the cheaper ones are situated far away from the park. Further research however made me stumble upon Benguet Pine Tourist Inn. Its location (walking distance to Burnham Park and room rate (Php1,200.00 for a room good for two persons with own toilet and bath and free breakfast for 2) perfectly suits my need. Since they don't have an online booking facility, I just save their contact number and made our reservation through phone call while we're on our way to Baguio City.

After visiting Baguio Cathedral, we took a taxi ride to Benguet Pine Tourist Inn. It was still about 10 AM and too early for the usual check in time of 2:00 PM. Our plan was to first pay for our accommodation then leave our bags at the reception so we could freely wander around Baguio. We were, however, pleasantly surprised when the lady at the front desk informed us that we could already check in if we wish.

We were then directed to the adjacent building and into the second floor where our room is located. The inn is noticeably dated with dimmed and narrow hallway. Our room is small but not cramped and there is still enough space to move around and place our belongings. It is not airconditioned but is naturally cooled by Baguio's cold weather. It also has Cable TV and toilet and bath with hot and cold shower. The bed's warm and thick blankets kept us warm through the cold and rainy night.

All rooms include free breakfast. Be aware though that breakfast is only comprised of two pieces of toasted bread, butter, sunny-side-up egg and coffee. If you want something more filling, they have the usual "silog" dishes available for order.

Benguet Pine Tourist Inn's location is its best selling point. As mentioned, it is only a few minutes walk to Burnham Park. Not only that, it is also right across the Orchidarium and a 711 convenience store. The famous Good Taste Restaurant is right within the next block and if you want to shop for pasalubongs, Baguio City Public Market and Harrissson Road (famous for its night market "ukay-ukay) can be walked for about 15 minutes.

Overall, we have a pleasant stay at Benguet Pine Tourist Inn. Our room is cozy, clean and comfortable and the bed gave us a good night sleep. The staff are all helpful and friendly. We were allowed to check in early with no additional fee and upon checking out the next day, they allow us to leave our bags in a secured room as we went out to buy pasalubongs before going home.
