The Province of Guimaras is best known for its sweet mangoes, captivating islets and white sand beaches. Yet a new attraction has recently boosted both tourism and development in this island: the San Lorenzo Wind Farm developed by Trans-Asia Renewable Energy Corp. (TAREC).

Situated in the fifth class municipality of San Lorenzo, the wind farm officialy commenced operations on December 27, 2014. Two months before that, though, it already started delivering power to the Visayas power grid.

The wind farm is consists of 27 wind turbines spread over 14 kilometers across 4 barangays. Each wind turbine generate 2 MW of power for a total of 54 megawatts.

Just like the famous wind farm in Bangui, Ilocos Norte, the wind turbines in San Lorenzo, Guimaras exude an awe-inspiring charm and its man-made beauty provide a perfect backdrop for photographs. With a staggering height of 80 meters, the white-painted structures provide a perfect contrast to the clear blue skies.

Aside from generating power and bringing more tourists to the island, the San Lorenzo Wind Farm is also a significant environmental-friendly project. It gives importance to the use of sustainable energy sources and contribute to the global effort of reducing greenhouse emission in the atmosphere.
